A small but enthusiastic group of Mooniacs thoroughly enjoyed the St. George, Utah fly-in. This was the first fly-in to Utah for the Vintage Mooney Group. Eleven Mooneys and twenty-four flyers arrived in the later morning. It was a beautiful day for flying. Those who flew in reported the air was smooth and clear and the scenery gorgeous. For many it was their first time in St. George. Likely, they'll be back again to this colorful area.

The group milled around the ramp, chatted, and kicked tires while awaiting the lunch bell. Of note on the ramp were the M20G "twins." Don Bourne and Dale Mooneyham admired each other's Mooneys. Don has had his Mooney for thirty-one years. That is a story in itself. When he had it painted he did it in the original scheme. Dale's Mooney paint is original too. But his is a work in progress, panel, interior and mods are just part of this restoration project.

From the ramp we all strolled over to Rococo's for lunch. The lunch was delicious, the service was excellent, and what a view! It is a "million dollar view" to compliment your $100 hamburger. The airport is on a mesa and the restaurant is perched on the edge overlooking the St. George valley. The panoramic view of green valley and surrounding red rock mountains is stunning.

While we waited for our lunch to be served we went around the room and introduced ourselves. Newlyweds John and Cindy Deptula were welcomed to the VMG board. John's knowledge of great places to fly in the Arizona area will result in some fun future fly-in destinations.

St. George was a wonderfully successful destination. It is not only a great destination but there are so many things to see and do that we have only begun to scratch the surface. This is a place rich in wonders and awaiting discovery. We hope to return again soon.

Blue Skies,
Donn and Barbara Larson
